3 Steps to Stop Self-Sabotaging in Business

Mindset is 80% of running a business. Yes, you read that right. 

Growing a business can be hard work but the reality is that we frequently make it harder than it needs to be because of our own limiting beliefs and fears. In my interview with Michelle Glogovac on her podcast, My Simplified Life, we discussed the importance of mindset when it comes to long-term success at the 26 minute mark.

Most of the ceilings we hit in our entrepreneurial journey are self-imposed. Every time you level up, you experience a new level of road blocks and mindset challenges. 

Some people let these inevitable road blocks stop them or hold them back, never realizing their full potential. Other people dedicate the time and space to work through them so they continue to step into their next level of growth, both personally and as a business.

A huge part of my work as a business consultant is helping other business owners move through these mindset blocks and learn to recognize the signs of self-sabotaging.  As we work on building their strategic plans, achieving their goals, and growing their businesses, I also spend time helping them think bigger, stop feeling like an impostor, recognizing their fear of being judged but doing it anyway, accepting that they are "ready", etc.   

Three steps to stop self-sabotaging in your business

  1. The first step is recognizing the limiting beliefs you do have and understanding that mindset is an integral part of building a successful business.
  2. Identify the unsupportive mindset. Are you constantly feeling the guilt and pressure to always say yes and put other people's needs first? Are you expecting perfection or overnight success? 
  3. Exchange your unsupportive mindset with a supportive mindset. If you're feeling the constant guilt and pressure to always say yes, focus on setting clear boundaries and unapologetically saying no to whatever isn't serving you or your business.  

It frequently helps to work through blockers by writing things down.  Putting pen to paper is not only important for achieving your goals, but it also helps you acknowledge and progress your limiting beliefs.  So grab your journal, your planner, or print out our Fuckit list template, and make a commitment to work through the mindset challenges that are currently keeping you stuck and holding you back from your next level.  

Because here's the thing, even though I am ALL ABOUT strategies, strategically-aligned tactics, and productivity techniques, they aren't enough on their own.  Your mindset and limiting beliefs will cause you to get in your own damn way.  

Mindset is key to sustainable success.
